Why you must do greater works – The Reward for Faithfulness – Part 2 – Pastor Odim Awa Odim: Why you must do greater works – The Reward for Faithfulness (Part 2)
John 14:12; [12] “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. Notice from the scriptures above that Jesus Christ emphasized that our believe should hinge on first in him and secondly on the works that he did.
So that tells me that the spiritual inclination to doing greater works is believing. Then when we believe in him, we transcend to the realm of faith. faith in what? Faith in Jesus and this works is the only qualifications needed for reward.
What is reward?
Reward is something of value given in return of an act, particularly in a biblical context, Reward is multifaceted and includes both temporal and eternal benefits. These rewards are often tied to faithfulness in managing God’s gifts, including time, talents, treasure, and testimony, for His purposes. Some key rewards mentioned in the Bible are an inheritance, distinction, divine favor, and a crown in eternity.
Matthew 19:27-29; [27] Then Peter answered and said to Him, “See, we have left all and followed You. Therefore, what shall we have?” [28] So Jesus said to them, “Assuredly I say to you, that in the regeneration, when the Son of Man sits on the throne of His glory, you who have followed Me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. [29] And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My name’s sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life.
The reward system of God does not thrive on complaints because it is a spiritual law, not a natural law. The reward system of God thrives on faith because faith is a spiritual Law. Hebrews 11:6; [6] But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. So what God rewards is our faithfulness,
The Kinds of Reward Systems of God
1. Inheritance and Eternal Life:
Faithfulness in serving the Lord and advancing His kingdom, is factored in receiving an inheritance from God. eternal life is assured for those who exercise faith in God, especially those who win souls for Christ. 1 Peter 1:3-4; [3] Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, [4] to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you,
2. Divine Empowerment and Favor:
Greater works is often associated with divine empowerment, meaning God anoints and equips believers to fulfill their roles effectively. Being a faithful believer can lead to divine favor, as God is pleased with those who diligently manage His gifts. Philippians 4:13; [13] I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
3. Distinction and Recognition:
God is said to distinguish those who are faithful with their service in this kingdom highlighting their good works and dedication. There is a magnified reward for those who strive and work hard as bond servants, associated with dignified crowns in eternity. Matthew 25:32-33; [32] All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. [33] And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left.
4. Temporal Blessings:
Our faithfulness can lead to comprehensive supply and provision in one’s life, as God promises to meet the needs of those who uphold and advocate for His kingdom. These blessings are inclusive in various aspects of life, such as relationships, material wealth, health, and wisdom. Isaiah 45:3; [3] I will give you the treasures of darkness and hidden riches of secret places, that you may know that I, the Lord, who call you by your name, Am the God of Israel.
5. Other Rewards:
Believers will also receive a crown of righteousness for those who love the Lord’s appearing and a crown of glory for those who faithfully serve in leadership roles. 1 Timothy 5:17; [17] Let the elders who rule well be counted worthy of double honor, especially those who labor in the word and doctrine.
Summary
There’s also a concept of “divine multiplication,” where God multiplies what is used for His purposes, especially in the context of spreading the gospel. In essence, the rewards of Greater Works are not just material or temporal, but also deeply spiritual and eternal, emphasizing the importance of faithfulness in managing all that God has entrusted to us.
