What is Authority?

Power or right to make or enforce rules, give orders, or impose obligation; or a position having such power or right.

Luke 10:19; [19] Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Jesus Christ was more interested in our well-being as much as the great commission. From the opening scripture Jesus was telling us about the dangers and the evils in the world.

It was a collective term for things such as sicknesses, deaths, demonic oppression, and other works of Satan. This is so because he understood the negative circumstances involved with the operating system of the world.

Hebrews 4:15; [15] For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. So he also faced similar circumstances yet with no sin because he was an Authority.

Ephesians 6:12; [12] For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 2 Corinthians 10:4; [4] For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds,

Kinds of Authority?

1. The Authority of the word.

Matthew 8:8-9; [8] The centurion answered and said, “Lord, I am not worthy that You should come under my roof. But only speak a word, and my servant will be healed. [9] For I also am a man under authority, having soldiers under me. And I say to this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes; and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”

We must understand that we are an expression of the word we speak.

Proverbs 18:21; [21] Death and life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it will eat its fruit. When we speak we create an impression of the word we speak in an intangible form seeking for manifestation into a tangible form whether positive or negative.

John 6:63; [63] It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life. Jesus was categorically speaking in the book of John as the word Himself he knows that we make progress by uttering words that are in line with God’s program for us.

In the spiritual kingdom words rule , so when the open text describes the Authority backing every believer..it is simply pointing to the holy Spirit which we received when we received the nature of Christ when we have put on the new man that is created in Christ Jesus. This significant transformation in a believers life made us the righteousness in Christ and a vessel to host the holy Spirit.

Ephesians 4:22-24; [22] that you put off, concerning your former conduct, the old man which grows corrupt according to the deceitful lusts, [23] and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, [24] and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.

When we received Jesus Christ in our hearts and have gone through the process of mind renewal we will start to speak words of authority which is Anointed by the holy Spirit. These words are not ordinary words but they are powerful words which has the dynamic capacity of causing a unique change. When God created the heaven and the earth he willed the earth to us to manage it’s affairs.

Psalms 115:16; [16] The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord’s; But the earth He has given to the children of men.

Reasons of your Authority.

I. We have authority on earth. Why?
On the grounds of creation, God has given us Dominion on earth. Genesis 1:26; [26] Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

II. As covenant children of God, the power of God backs our words.

1 John 4:4; [4] You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.

III. Jesus have given us authority in heaven and on earth.

Philippians 2:10; [10] that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth,

IV. There’s power in our Words.
Angels harken to the voice of our words which are ideally God’s words.

Psalms 103:20; [20] Bless the Lord, you His angels, Who excel in strength, who do His word, Heeding the voice of His word. We give voice to God’s Word, Every time we quote Scriptures out loud, we are giving voice to His Word, and angels will respond.

Summary

All this power and authority we possess here on earth can only be activated with our words. We release words to be an Authority, Until our Words is released, power and authority remain dormant. But when they’re released, nature responds in obedience to our commands. Anyone who has learned to utilize the power and the authority of their words will reign on earth.
